Designed by the late David Gill (creator of Village Links and Tamarack), Blackberry Oaks plays around and over its namesake, Blackberry Creek, in the far southwestern farmland. At Par 72 and 6,278 yards, the layout isn't long, but wayward shots are invitations to even more trouble. Beginning at No. 8, the meandering stream must be negotiated on six of the last 11 holes, culminating with a monstrous approach to the 405-yard, Par 4 18th, guarded in front by an island studded with trees. The 10th, a short Par 4 at 368 yards, a well- placed tee shot is required right of the oaks creeping in from the left and short of the reachable water to the right. Nominated by Golf Digest in 1993 as one of the nation's best new courses, the rolling terrain, marshes, creeks and wetlands combine to set up an honest challenge for golfers of all abilities.
